<Development Course>

Aim: People have been recognizing development as something necessary to maintain their basis for living and to advance their society whatever the economic level of their countries may be. The issues surrounding development are not exclusive to developing countries.  Developed countries have also been facing challenges including economic development, societal development and rejuvenations of local communities. Governments have been the prime executers for development efforts and projects until recently.  However, business enterprises and NGOs are increasing their involvements in development projects and their recognition in this endeavor is growing.   Today, there is little use in dividing their domains.  Their boundaries of work are fading as they work more closely and they move into each other’s former territories.
  The Development Course members started discussions by presenting and sharing examples of development showing the cooperation among governments, businesses and NGOs in twenty-one respective countries.  The group, then, sought how governments, businesses and NGOs can further harmonize their activities in development efforts.  Upon etablishing a common ground the propose projects towards global harmony utilizing ties and networks with their Alumni Association or other organizations.  Further, they discussed about concrete measures for implementation of the said projects.

<Education Course>

Aim: Education takes place in schools, families and societies.  In the 21st Century Renaissance Youth Leaders Invitation Program 2004, the education course focused on education carried out in societies.  Within the varied educational activities that are taking place in societies, the focus was on education activities that aim to cultivate the spirit of global understanding and cooperation especially towards youth in the range of late teens to early twenties.
 In our globalizing community, it is important for the youth to be able to adapt and take part in an environment with people of different ethnic backgrounds.  In seeking for activities that cultivated the spirit of understanding and relating beyond our own borders, we started by sharing youth education activities that are taking place in societies of each country.  Then, we gathered thoughts on the main essence that the activities contained.  Later during the session, the activities were planned with the condition that the participants should take initiative in the implementation process.  It was also agreed that once activities are implemented in various countries, they will continuously to share the experiences and furthermore, establish measures in which the activity know-how and human resources may interact among countries allowing the realization of further global harmonization.
