Message from the IYEO President for the Great East Japan Earthquake
March 18, 2011
Dear Former participants of the International Exchange Programs of Cabinet office, Government of Japan
Tomoko Okawara, President of IYEO
The recent earthquake in Japan (‘the Great East Japan Earthquake’) is the worst disaster in
Japanese history with over 15,000 dead and missing persons in total as of March 18, 2011. I would
like to express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and their families and sincerely
hope that the whereabouts of missing persons will be found as soon as possible.
International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO) would like to support
earthquake-affected victims using our extensive network established through the International
Youth Exchange programs by the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan to the extent possible. I
would like to suggest that we support not only recovery of the affected areas but also energizing
Japan as a whole. To this end, long-term effort in various areas will be necessary.
IYEO plans to support earthquake victims thorough four steps shown below and would kindly ask
you for your cooperation. I sincerely hope that individual IYEO members actively engage
themselves in various activities for the disaster recovery and revitalization of Japanese society using
their respective skills and field of expertise.
Let’s cooperate and work together.
